And suddenly this wonderful piece of art inspired me to write a drabble for my story Talent. Thank you!
โItโs warm.โ
Blaze directs a flat look at him. โThatโs obvious, isnโt it? Itโs fire.โ
โYeah, I know. Itโs just, it really doesnโt hurt. Itโs hot, but not painful. Thatโs amazing.โ
She sits down on the bed, though she still keeps a careful eye on him, he notices. Canโt be too careful, he thinks. She would know.
Talent
For my prompt challenge, here’s some backstory to my characters.
In the world of this story, there is a small minority of people who gain superpowers called talents. People who have talents are called Talents themselves. This is not widely known except for a division in the government. Most people gain a talent in their teens, so the government tries to gather them in a boarding school , called the Academy, under their supervision. A group of Talents uncover a plot to use Talents in warfare and such and start a mass break-out in the school. After the break-out they are on the run from the government who chases them with Talents who have sided themselves with the government.
That’s all I have for a general plot. Now onto the characters.
A concept: mermaids in wheelchairs
Another: shapeshifters with stretch marks
Religious vampires trying to find ways to balance their ideologies with their needs
Sirens learning sign language so they can communicate without enchanting anyone
Disabled fairies who can’t fly pushing for accessibility
Spirits helping save people from fires and other natural disasters because they can access areas too dangerous for the living
Dragons becoming foster parents and providing super safe homes for “hordes” of children until they grow up
Female werewolves with facial hair and body hair not letting anyone make them feel bad about it
Fae snatching children from abusive homes and raising them in safety while the changeling wreaks havoc
Liberated genies using their power to fight for human rights
Witchy cooking shows where witches try to make specific potions or find creative magical solutions to problems
Psychic psychologists and medical doctors who are able to figure out exactly how to help even if their patient is non-verbal, young, or afraid of being honest because they’re with an abuser
Psychic teachers knowing just what to do to help students with learning disabilities
Yes please.
I just slammed the reblog button so hard my phone broke.
Hell hound service animals
As a small child, I was a completely blank slate. I found people to imitate, to try to be connected to. I talked with adults mostly, because they were the only people I felt comfortable around. Recently, I found one particular person to latch onto and try to imitate/impress. Later finding out they were an INTJ, I began to wonder if I developed this personality specifically because I wanted to, or if it was just inherent but never quite obvious until now.

it tastes like the aftermath of a thunderstorm
electric on your tongue.
this is how the story goes, isn’t it?
all your burning questions and words of revolution
held there behind your teeth -
to speak would be your condemnation.
to stay silent would be your death.
would you have chosen silence if it saved you from the storm?
How dangerous,โ she thought, โto finally have something worth losing.
